Phoenix Reborn

Phoenix Reborn

I almost didn’t paint this one.

Phoenix Reborn came out of a fire — not just the flaming colors across the canvas, but the fire of my real life.

Everything had unraveled. My husband was suddenly hit with late-onset epilepsy, and doctors didn’t believe what my gut already knew — that environmental triggers were at play. Mold in our home confirmed it. We had to walk away from everything: our possessions, our safety, our routine. And in the midst of it all, we had to shut down our home improvement contracting business — the one stable source of income we had.

Suddenly, we were a family of four relying solely on me. No roadmap. No safety net. Just God, grit, and whatever creative spark I could still muster.

I leaned into face painting to provide for us — a skill I had used for years to bring joy to others. But in that lonely, uncertain season, I craved something more than just momentary smiles. I needed connection. I needed to feel like I belonged.

That’s when I created my own line of glitter cosmetics.

At first, it was just for fun — but soon, it became a superpower. Through bold colors and shimmering sparkle, I found a way to connect with girls and women from all walks of life. We didn’t need to know each other’s stories — we just needed a moment to smile, to light up, and to see ourselves reflected in the joy. It felt like having sisters everywhere I went… all made of the same stardust.

But still, I longed for something lasting. Sparkle on the skin was magical, but I wanted to create something permanent. Something that wouldn’t wash off. Something that could carry the joy forever.

So I turned my pain and purpose into paint.

In the middle of the summer heat — in a non-climate-controlled storage unit — I transformed a metal box into a sacred art studio. Despite my MS. Despite my grief. Despite the exhaustion. I poured every drop of my story into this piece.

And Phoenix Reborn emerged.

This painting pulses with energy — electric pinks, neon oranges, bold purples, and swirls of metallic fire. A phoenix in mid-flight, bursting with divine motion and unstoppable spirit. If you look close, you’ll see cell patterns like scars that became stars. The layers are alive with movement, memory, and hope.

When I finished, I cried. Not from pain — but because I knew:
I had made it.
I was the phoenix.

This painting is more than art — it’s proof that beauty can rise from ashes. That even in the darkest season, joy and belonging can still be found… and even better, captured forever.

Let this piece remind you:
Your story isn’t over.
You, too, can rise.

“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge…” – Psalm 91:4
