Refined in the Stretch

Refined in the Stretch is a painting that made me think about what happens when something is pushed almost impossibly far.

I was fascinated by how far the paint stretched outward from the center. Some of it became incredibly thin and delicate, creating these tiny strands, branching lines, and web-like details. They look like they should have broken, but somehow, they held.

That made me start seeing myself in the painting.

There have been seasons when I’ve felt stretched in every direction, trying to keep showing up while wondering how much more of myself I could possibly give. And somewhere in that stretching, I became more discerning about where my energy goes.

I learned that protecting myself isn't selfish. Sometimes it's necessary.

What I love most is that the stretching didn't make this painting less beautiful. It actually created some of the most intricate details in the piece. Then the epoxy resin preserved all of that movement and delicacy beneath this incredible glossy surface.

For me, Refined in the Stretch represents resilience, refinement, and self-preservation. ✨
