She Rides the Whirlwind came straight from my spirit in a season when life felt like one massive storm. I wasn’t just painting—I was praying, crying, breathing, barely holding on. I felt like I was being tossed around in chaos, like I couldn’t catch my breath. The only thing I could do was cling to the tiniest sparks of joy—any color, any light, anything that reminded me God was still with me.

That red you see in this piece? That’s me on fire. That’s my rage, my anguish, the burning weight of everything I was carrying at the time. But then… that turquoise and electric blue showed up. My soul’s color. My comfort color. The one that calms me down and brings me back to center. It’s so woven into my life that the girls in my wedding wore turquoise dresses—and I found out later my mom had the same color in hers. It’s like God left a little color thread for me to hold onto through generations.

This painting felt like alchemy—like I was transforming all that red-hot pain into something cool and beautiful. The figure that emerged in the middle, rising from the waves… that was me. A spiritual warrior. A mermaid. A wild, feminine force held together by grace, carried by the Holy Spirit.

The movement, the mess, the light bursting through—it’s all part of the message. Even when I’m riding the whirlwind, even when I don’t know which way is up, I’m never alone. I’m never crushed. I’m carried.
