Swirly Twirly started with me simply having fun with color. I was experimenting, playing, and seeing what happened when I let myself follow the paint. It felt playful, bright, and cheery.
But this painting became part of a bigger lesson for me as an artist.
When I first started sharing my paintings, I had no idea what they were worth. I remember someone looking at one of my paintings and saying, “That looks like a $500 painting.” My reaction was basically, What the hell? Who would pay $500 for a painting? 😂
Looking back, I realize she saw possibility in my work before I could see it myself.
Swirly Twirly eventually found its home with a mom I met while face painting at her child’s birthday party. She was also stepping into a new chapter, and she immediately connected with the painting.
For me, this piece is a reminder that sometimes other people can recognize the value in our gifts before we’re ready to recognize it ourselves. 💛
