The Divine Tangle

The Divine Tangle is one of the most personal paintings I’ve ever made—a visual love letter to the holy mess of motherhood, identity, and surrender.

I was deep in the thick of it when I created this piece. No roadmap. No backup. Just me, navigating the intense demands of being a twin mom to a boy and a girl, with a sick husband and so many unknowns pressing in on every side. I was trying to hold it all together—for everyone. And if I’m honest, I was worn down to the bone. Spiritually, emotionally, physically—I had nothing left but faith.

As I poured the paint, blending my favorite blues and pinks into a rich, soulful purple, I could see my children in the colors—two energies colliding into one wild, divine identity. I dropped a marble onto the canvas and tried to guide it gently, to spell the word love. But just like in life, my attempt at control slipped right through my fingers.

That marble had its own path.

It spun and twisted, swirled and dragged the paint in unpredictable ways. At first, I resisted. I wanted symmetry. Intention. Order. But then I let go… and what poured out was better than anything I could’ve planned.

This painting became a picture of what it means to surrender to the chaos while trusting it’s still sacred. The shimmering gold woven through the piece represents God’s hand in it all—His love, His light, His steady presence even when everything else feels tangled and upside down.

I’ve learned that the divine isn’t always neat or quiet. Sometimes it’s loud and swirly and full of wild movement. But it’s no less holy.
