While It’s Here

While It’s Here is one of those paintings that started almost completely intuitively.

I love putting a canvas on my spinner, turning it with my left hand while my right hand moves through the wet paint. I create little curls and spirals wherever they feel like they belong. There isn't really a plan. I just follow the movement.

I've always thought of those tiny swirls as little fingerprints of God — unexpected details that appear as I let the painting unfold.

But over time, this painting took on another meaning for me.

A friend’s mother was very sick, and she loved this painting. She told me she wanted it, but after I gave her the price, nothing ever came of it. Then she passed away.

I found myself wishing I had simply given it to her.

That experience reminded me how easy it is to assume we have more time. More time to give the gift. More time to say something. More time to take the opportunity. More time to follow the thing that lights us up.

Sometimes we don't.

So I don't look at this painting as something sad. I see it as a joyful reminder to pay attention, stay open, and notice the beauty that's already here.

That’s where the title came from.

For me, While It’s Here represents joy, aliveness, and openness. ✨
